Dhaka, Bangladesh

Ah the jet lagged life of a cabin crew. So I finally managed to fall asleep at 9 am thinking I'd sleep in late and be fully rested for my flight at 2 am tomorrow. Instead I wake up at 3 pm and probably won't be getting a nap in before my flight. Luckily its only a short 5 hour flight to Dhaka and ever luckier I get 24 hours there. I was looking through my pictures of my past trips there and unfortunately don't have any interesting pictures to share (unless you REALLY care about what I ate and what the hotel room looked like!).

I do remember one trip however, where the crew & myself ventured out to Bangla Bazaar to go shopping. As Bangladesh produces clothes for Mango, Zara etc. we thought it would be a good idea to shop in the bazaar to get some great deals for a fraction of the cost. One of the crew had previously been to the bazaar and warned us about the "guides". Basically as soon as we got out of the taxi it was very clear that we were all tourists (4 girls & 2 guys all different nationalities). Right away we were swarmed with "guides" that wanted to help us guide our way around the enormous, confusing bazaar. They claimed to lead us right to the stalls that sold the Mango & Zara clothes (without the label) and that without their help we would never find it. Now of course this "guide" comes with a price and the crew told us we would be fine on our own.  After 45 minutes of being followed by 4 guides constantly harassing & taunting us ("You are getting farther away", "You are not going to find Mango"), we finally got so fed up and just left. The few things we saw and bargained for the guides whispered to the stall owners and suddenly the price went up for us. We managed to snag a few deals but in the end were so annoyed that we didn't bother really looking around that much.

That definitely was quite the experience though! I think if I ever venture there again I would pay for a  guide. I don't mind paying to help another make a few bucks to survive...

Adelaide, Australia

I had the pleasure of doing a 2 day trip to Adelaide, Australia in November 2012. I was especially excited since I would get to hang out with my ex-batchmate as well. Visions of vineyards danced in my head and I certainly wasn't disappointed!

 First stop on our journey - The Rocking Horse

Lol. We just did a drive by. No point getting out to walk up that!

 

 

Second stop - The Whispering Wall. So 1 person stands on one side of the wall & the second person walks all the way to the end of the wall. You can "whisper" or talk to each other and the sound of your voice carries all the way to the other end. Was pretty cool considering its quite a distance from one side to the other!

 

 

Third stop - The wineries

 

 

We had started our drive early so were both starving. Stopped off at a German restaurant/bar for some lunch. Nothing like schnitzel & some beer to keep you going!

So for dinner Blake treated me to an absolutely delicious meal at an Argentinian steakhouse.  Looking at this pic still makes my mouth water. The chimmichurri sauce, those seasoned potatoes & Malbec wine paired with that.....Yummy!

 

 

As it was November, the city was already decorated for the upcoming Christmas festivities. We drove up to this display by the water. So cute!

Overall a great trip to Adelaide. Looking forward to visiting the vineyards on another trip. Was absolutely breathtaking in the Barossa Valley...and the wines not too shabby either ;)



Accra, Ghana & Abidjan, Ivory Coast

So Accra/Abidjan was my first ever layover as a cabin crew. I've done it once since then and it really is a great trip. We fly to Accra and spend 24 hours there, then a shuttle flight to Abidjan & right back to Accra for another 48 hours. I've been lucky enough to fly with incredible crew both trips and had a really FUN time. Ghana is full of really warm & friendly people. Really good restaurants as well.

3 years???? I could have sworn I posted on here last year. Anyhoo lets see how long I can remember to keep this going. I'm never going to remember to post after every flight so lets just go back to some previous layovers.

Bored out of my mind.....

So my flight from Vienna arrived late therefore not making it legal to do my Bangkok flight that I really really REALLY wanted. Vienna was absolutely gorgeous. I love it during winter especially before Christmas. Nothing like walking in the snow to a Christmas market to sample sausages, doughnuts & gluhwein (hot spiced wine). Pictures to follow soon when I have time.

In the meantime, since my Bangkok flight was taken away I am currently on "Standby" from 4-10 pm. B-O-R-I-N-G!!!! So Im stuck in the standby lounge waiting to perhaps get called out on a flight. If not, then tomorrow I have home standby from 4 pm - Midnight. Goody.

I've been here 46 minutes & I'm already falling asleep :(

So what does a girl do after working a 15 hour flight? Obviously cook some parma-rose spaghetti with shrimp, pour a glass of sweet red wine and watch Eat. Pray. Love. I've read the book and LOVED it and decided to see if the movie was any good. Only got half way through it before I fell asleep though. Ah well.

Oooooh! So Vienna, Bangkok, Houston, Mauritius, Colombo & Dusseldorf this month. What a fantastic roster. Thanks so scheduling for giving me 24 hours in Seychelles. I swapped it for a Bangkok because theres no point in being someplace that beautiful during hurricane season when its pouring! :p

HOUSTON!

So I FINALLY decided to brave a Houston flight to go see my good friend, Davika. It was well worth it! Had such a great time catching up and making fun of each other. Of course we shopped, shopped, SHOPPED! It was incredibly nice of her to drive the 3 hours to come see me then chauffeur me around the entire time. Can't wait to go back in 2 weeks! Hope I can fit the air purifier & ipod dock I plan to buy in my suitcase. *fingers crossed*
